Unlike the first Cello Sonata composed four years earlier (HN 1357), this second Sonata, which was significantly more attractive and pleasant to play, obtained great success with the public and critics from the start. His friend and traveling companion Vincent d'Indy wrote to Fauré the day after the premiere in May 1922: “I want to tell you how much I am still under the spell of your beautiful Sonata. I found in there: The Music that we seem to forget now ”. It is therefore hardly surprising that this sonata quickly figured in the concert repertoire, where it now holds its place firmly. For the fingerings indications, we were able to count on the duo David Geringas and Markus Bellheim.
