Only a few major works were composed for the piano quintet formation - alongside the masterpieces of Schubert, Schumann and Brahms, the Dvorák Quintet, written in 1887 is unquestionably one of them. In him is revealed the true master who knows how to combine formal coherence with rich melodic inspiration and captivating rhythms. With its folkloric themes, his piano quintet has become one of Dvorák's most popular works of chamber music, and indeed of all romantic literature. The time has therefore come for a Henle Urtext edition - 60 years after the publication of the Czech edition of the complete works, a new look at the sources is in order, including of course the autograph kept at the National Museum in Prague.
