Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Piano Trio No.1 in D minor op. 49
Ernst Herttrich (Editor)
Klaus Schilde (Fingering)
Urtext edition, paperback binding
Mendelssohn is considered a very critical composer of himself, who revised his own works numerous times before deeming them worthy of publication. The gestation of his first Trio with piano was particularly painful. It was only after several attempts that he was able to complete it in the summer of 1839. After further revisions, it was published in 1840. This perfectionism paid off in return, for Mendelssohn's Trio in D minor met with immediate success. Robert Schumann wrote: “This trio is a centerpiece of our time, as were those in B flat and D in their time by Beethoven, or that by Franz Schubert in E flat. A very beautiful composition, which in years to come will still delight our children and grandchildren. " He was right: even today, it is one of the most popular works in the trio repertoire. The piece, taken from the volume: Mendelssohn · Piano Trios HN 957 is for the first time available separately from Henle in a practical performance edition.
