The "MiniNova" takes the core sound engine of the iconic UltraNova and places it in a lighter, ultra-portable chassis. Designed to deliver the Novation signature without compromise, it combines an immediate workflow (large selection encoder, genre-based navigation) with an architecture worthy of much larger machines. Monotimbral but generous in polyphony, it serves as an ideal entry point into the Novation universe for both stage and studio.

Features and Innovations

Based on subtractive/virtual-analog synthesis enriched with wavetables, the MiniNova stacks 3 oscillators per voice, two modelable filters, 6 envelopes, and 3 LFOs for evolving textures. The animation pads and pad-driven arpeggiator instantly energize your patterns. On the processing side, up to 5 effects per patch (reverb, delay, chorus, etc.) support a 12-band vocoder and the VocalTune effect for impactful spoken/sung lines. The 37-note velocity-sensitive keyboard, pitch and modulation wheels, dedicated filter encoder, and LCD screen ensure direct control. Memory offers 256 factory presets and 128 user patches (total memory up to 512 patches), with style-based navigation. Connectivity includes audio inputs/outputs, MIDI In/Out, USB, headphone output, and XLR input for dynamic microphone; a gooseneck microphone is included for immediate performance out of the box.

First a word about the Woodbrass team: order placed Thursday at 9:00 am, received in full the next day at 11:30 am... no comment. Now the Mininova: I am in a fairly new generation punk/rock band, and we wanted to give more than just an electro touch to our songs. Being a pianist, it was up to me to take on the "charge" of playing synth. Initially launched on a master keyboard with GarageBand, I quickly felt the need to turn to an instrument intended for live/stage use... and after many hesitations I chose the MicroKorg. So thrilled with this type of keyboard that I chose to enrich once again by choosing this time the Mininova. I find these keyboards perfectly complementary and added to a good drummer, an aggressive bass and devilish riffs... it's killer!!! Electro is a novelty and I'm really enjoying it. It is quite heavy, a mix of steel, wood and plastic, good quality knobs, keyboard a little softer than the MicroKorg but still good quality. I also find it a little more intuitive than the MicroKorg, the samples and effects are really good quality and deliver an incredible sound. Plugged into a 100W amp it blows your mind!! I chose the offer with the corresponding case and surprise: there is a place for a 13'3 laptop (careful not bigger)!! The keyboard is smaller than standard ones. Pianists who are reluctant can rest assured, this synth is used as a synth and not as a piano. Its advantage (compared to other small synths) is that it has three octaves which allows you to play good pieces without changing octaves. Personally, I find that a minimum. The screen displays the sample selection and also the effect values ("perform" section). The pads (1 to 8) offer additional effects, different depending on the sample. Also a simple button allows switching to the arpeggiator chord. Of course, a tempo control for the arpeggiator. I find that it is not an excellent synth for this price range, I find that it is an excellent synth, the price being a plus!! Those who hesitate between this one and the MicroKorg here is my opinion: they are complementary and more interesting than a single synth at 700 euros. Maybe the only flaw is the size: if like me you plan to put it on an X stand, they are short both in length and width and therefore require placing a board on the stand (same for additional stands placed higher).... Superb instrument with surprising performance for a small keyboard... don't be mistaken, this is not a toy, it's an ultra professional synth. The only small downside is that the power adapter is in British format. But I was blown away by the exceptional sound, the multitude of effects, the arpeggiator, and of course the multiple vocoder. Finally, you might say a 3-octave keyboard? Well no, you play on 3 octaves but you can move the scale up or down. Many musicians watching demos on social networks say it: everyone wants a Mini Nova!!!
