Schott HOLLIGER H. - PRELUDIO E FUGA (A 4 VOCI) - CONTREBASSE

Description

Holliger enhances his virtuosic compositions as always by reviving historical traditions. In Preludio e Fuga, this return to history is the scordatura of what is called the "Viennese tuning." It is found in the main pieces of the double bass repertoire (such as in Mozart's concert aria KV 612) as a third interval between the first and third strings and thinner strings that respond better. But virtuosity is never an end in itself for Holliger: more and more motivic particles emerge from the broad "unmeasured Prelude" with almost unreal vibrant sounds, due to countless harmonics that gradually come together to form the elements of a four-voice fugue. Produced in collaboration with Edicson Ruiz, for whom Preludio e Fuga was written, our edition presents, to facilitate study, two forms of notation: in sounding pitch and tablature.
