Yamaha Revstar Standard Rss02T Swift Blue

Description

YAMAHA REVSTAR STANDARD RSS02T
Originally launched in 2015, the Revstar range was Yamaha's first series of electric guitars offered in over a decade, drawing on the brand's expertise in luthiery and electric guitar design as well as the engineering and design heritage of Yamaha Motor Co.'s motorcycle division.
The new Revstar series is structured around three levels: Element, Standard, and Professional, handcrafted in Japan. All models feature chambered bodies developed using Yamaha's Acoustic Design process. By utilizing advanced measurement and modeling tools, Yamaha developed the chambered design to acoustically sculpt the tones, increase resonance while reducing weight, and promote balance.
All new Revstar models offer unique switching options for greater versatility. The Revstar Element models are equipped with the Dry Switch high-pass filter introduced in the original series. The Revstar Standard and Professional models, available with either humbuckers or P90-style single-coil pickups, feature the Focus Switch, a passive boost function that evokes the sound of overwound pickups, as well as a unique 5-position switching circuit that offers a new approach to classic "in-between" tones.
The new range also introduces a new neck profile across all models, a new variety of race-inspired finishes, and the first-ever left-handed models in the history of the REVSTAR series.

Premium carefully selected parts and materials, combined with ingenuity and craftsmanship reflecting Japanese engineering ethics focused on detail, ensure this guitar stays true to the Café racer spirit: functionality, character, and style in abundance.

The new Revstar RSS02T is available in 4 café racer-inspired finishes and features an aluminum racing tailpiece, carbon neck reinforcements, and a chambered body – an innovative concept developed using Yamaha's exclusive Acoustic Design process to sculpt the sound, reduce weight, and ensure optimal balance without sacrificing sustain and resonance. The two VP5 P90 single-coil pickups, combined with a 5-position pickup selector and a passive push/pull focus switch, offer uncommon versatility for a two-pickup guitar. Delivered with its deluxe padded gigbag.

I have had a few guitars in this price range, others higher, and if I compare with my Mexican Telecaster for example, the Yamaha is on a much higher level. The finish is excellent, the neck neither too thin nor too wide, the tuners hold the tuning. I am less convinced by the coil splits, it's a bit of a gimmick. The sound is that of P90s, less round and precise than a double humbucker, less crystalline and incisive than a single coil, and that's what I was looking for, but sound is a bit like aesthetics, very subjective. Otherwise, the model is available in a double humbucker version, everyone will find their happiness. Yamaha has a reputation for very well-finished instruments. With this model, it is not undeserved.... (Show more)
