Description

Essential Information About the Yamaha DTX402 Electronic Drum Kit

  • 4-legged metal rack: increased stability and redesigned ergonomics for natural placement of the hi-hat and snare drum.
  • New DTX402 module: acoustic drum and dynamic percussion sounds, modern rock and electronic kits, training functions, built-in digital audio interface.
  • PCY95 10-inch cymbal pad: quieter playing and more realistic feel.
  • KU100 bass drum controller: muffled strike ideal for home practice.

Historical Context and Positioning in the Range

Derived from the heritage of the DTX series, the DTX402 modernizes Yamaha's entry-level approach with a more robust rack and redesigned module. It is aimed at drummers seeking Yamaha reliability and in-house educational tools without sacrificing ease of setup.

Who This Drum Kit Is For

Perfect for beginners and intermediate players, the DTX402 supports learning, coordination work, and playing with a click track. Thanks to its varied sounds, it easily covers rock, pop, electro, funk, or hip-hop, whether using headphones at home, for silent rehearsals, or recording ideas.

Features and Innovations

The 4-legged rack provides a solid base and more intuitive adjustment options, especially for the hi-hat and snare drum position. The DTX402 module allows assembling custom kits, practicing with interactive functions, and utilizing its built-in digital audio interface to capture sound directly on a computer or mobile device. The new PCY95 10-inch cymbal pad reduces mechanical noise while enhancing feel, while the KU100 bass drum controller makes practice particularly discreet.

Sound

The DTX402 module offers samples of acoustic drums and percussion with convincing dynamics. Modern rock kits feature a crisp attack and good projection, while electronic sounds deliver sharp transients for contemporary grooves. Velocity curves highlight playing nuances, and the PCY95 pad contributes to a more natural response on accents, with reduced volume for apartment practice.

Easy to install and use even for a non-expert. Quite a few options. A Bluetooth connection would be convenient. A good purchase.

This review after a few weeks of use. First of all the strong points: quality of the different sounds offered, ease of adjusting/personalizing these sounds, replacing a useless preset with another, very low footprint, low noise for family and neighbors. For the weak points: normal for an entry-level product, the absence of a 3rd cymbal can quickly limit play. Same for the absence of a bass drum pad. Fortunately, it is possible to upgrade the drum kit by adding the BD pad and the pedal, which also allows investing in a 3rd cymbal (the Yamaha BD pad allows connecting another element). For me the biggest drawback is that the snare pad and the hi-hat cannot be separated in their installation, which complicates the possibility of finding the right playing position. Overall, positive review despite everything, it is a good value for money, the product corresponding rather to a beginner profile. On my side, it is likely that I will invest in something else in a few times.... (Show more)
