Essential Information About the Yamaha DTX452K Electronic Drum Kit

  • A true playing feel thanks to the Yamaha FP6110A bass drum pedal combined with the KP65 sensor and a dedicated hi-hat controller.
  • Versatile DTX402 module with 287 percussion sounds, 128 melodic sounds, 64-note polyphony, and 9 types of reverb to cover acoustic, modern rock, and electronic styles.
  • Optimized pads: quieter and more realistic PCY95 cymbal, TP70S triple-zone snare for enhanced expressiveness (rimshot, nuances, dynamics).
  • Easy recording and practice: USB to Host (audio and MIDI) + built-in training functions and dedicated app for effective progress.

Historical Context and Positioning in the Range

The DTX452K is part of Yamaha's DTX series, designed to offer a complete drumming experience in a compact format. Within the DTX402 range, it emphasizes accessibility and practice, while retaining Yamaha's DNA: reliable hardware, thoughtful ergonomics, and a sound bank designed to support progression from practice to production.

Who This Drum Kit Is For

The Yamaha DTX452K is particularly suited for beginner to intermediate drummers seeking a serious kit to work on precision, coordination, and groove without sacrificing playing enjoyment. It adapts to many styles (pop, rock, funk, contemporary music, and electronic) thanks to its varied kits and sound customization options, while remaining ideal for home use due to its quieter pads.

Features and Innovations

The 402 series adopts a new rack that is both lightweight and stable, resting on 4 legs for better support. The DTX402 module offers interactive training functions (exercises, scoring, timing work) and an adjustable metronome to structure your sessions. On the connectivity side, the USB to Host allows sending audio and MIDI to a computer or connected device, convenient for recording, controlling music software (DAW), or creating videos with the kit's sound.

Sound

On an electronic drum kit, the sound character depends primarily on the module: here, the DTX402 offers dynamic acoustic drum sounds, modern rock kits, and electronic textures, with built-in reverb to add space and depth. The 64-note polyphony ensures smooth playback of sequences, while the triple-zone snare and dedicated hi-hat control promote natural expressiveness, designed to facilitate the transition to an acoustic drum set.

I'm not an expert but a parent of a young budding drummer ??. We went around in circles for a long time between multiple references before coming across this one. We notably saw Roland drum kits that were substantially more expensive, especially because they are equipped with fabrics reproducing the drum skins for a more realistic experience. On reflection, I find this Yahama model excellent for beginners and it offers great value for money. The pads are less realistic, of course, but you quickly forget that with the headphones on your ears, the sensations are definitely there. The module is also much more advanced than on other models of equivalent range, or even much more expensive ones (notably the Roland). Possibility to modify the kit's sound, integrated learning tools, metronome and even a companion mobile app with lots of training exercises. Very happy with our purchase.... (Show more)

Nice simple instrument at first glance, you quickly feel complete with it. The hi-hat is a bit different from a real one, device bought to not disturb the neighbors but not at all disappointed even compared to an acoustic drum set. Impeccable delivery.

A very good instrument to start with! The quality is palpable. The seriousness of the YAMAHA brand. Simple assembly once you understand the logic and thanks to the use of a simple provided tool (bravo).
