The Miniamp/D.I. is a small unit that can be used as a full 100 Watt guitar amplifier at 4 Ohms by connecting it directly to a guitar cabinet, or as a preamp with some very useful options, such as an XLR output volume control, a Direct or CabSim output switch to use with your IRs, or the VARICAB, a true 100% analog speaker simulator that works on the preamp feedback and allows you to truly modify your amp's behavior in terms of frequencies, response, compression, and punch.
