Diatonic vs Chromatic
Diatonic harmonicas contain only 7 notes over several octaves with a specific layout that allows easy chord production by blowing and drawing. With the interaction of the blow reed and draw reed in each chamber, these harmonicas enable bending of certain notes, creating the characteristic plaintive blues effect while providing the missing chromatic notes on a diatonic instrument.
