I already own a SKB case (1SKB-444) for a second instrument, unfortunately not in the Woodbrass catalog because it is a notch above in some aspects (finish, more practical interior layout). I find in the 1SKB-244 many of the qualities of my first case: solid construction, good instrument protection, for a rather moderate price. I have already seen more expensive cases destroyed after a few years of use. On the downside of the 1SKB-244: the cushion does not fit into the storage compartments (you have to be clever and place it along the neck), the closure buckles are more basic, and the side studs that allow the case to be placed on its edge are poorly positioned: one stud is in the air and a hinge rests on the floor instead of this stud, which makes the position unstable. Not very serious, but shows an approximate finish (assembly error?) far from that of the 1SKB-444. For this reason, I do not give a maximum rating. Warning: these cases are not waterproof in heavy rain (but few cases are...)

I have owned an SKB case (reference 1SKB-444, Sculptured 4/4 Violin case) for several years, and I find that the cases from this brand have many qualities: a fairly reasonable price, compared to good finishing, and very respectable durability. I find these qualities in the 1SKB-244 purchased for a second instrument. But I find it a pity that Woodbrass does not also offer the 1SKB-444 which offers some nice little extras: an original interior layout that makes it easier to fit a cushion, better quality closing buckles, and a nicer exterior shape. The 1SKB-244 is clearly more basic. To fit the cushion, you have to be clever. And it is a bit wobbly when placed on its side. Hence my rating which is not maximal. But it fulfills its function: effective protection of the instrument, and a design that does not expose it to self-destruction over the years like some low-cost cases.
