I bought this bass to expand my range, and possibly replace my electroacoustic. Mission accomplished: unplugged it sounds as good as my jumbo long scale, so I'll only keep the Ibanez. First thing upon receiving it (the day after the transfer!!), I dismantled the pickguard, which I didn't like aesthetically and which clicks when I play with my thumb. The switch has a bit of play, but electrically no issues (we'll see over time but I'm not worried).
Let's get to the most important part.
So unplugged it sounds enough to work at home, or accompany a piano or guitar. Plugged in, the sound is great. From a slightly gritty rock to a muffled jazz softness. With a short sustain (that's what I was looking for with this bass). With this and a jazz bass, the arsenal is complete (if we don't talk about fretless or Rickenbacker ;)). For comfort, the neck is short, quite comfortable. The headstock dips a bit when playing standing, but this imbalance is not too pronounced. It arrived set up with a very low action (too low for me, I raised the bridge a bit)..
In short, very satisfied (really matches what I was looking for), not disappointed with the quality and charmed by the look. And being able to pick up your instrument and play directly without having to plug in, that's the best.
