I find almost only advantages to such a product. Most people would be unable to distinguish a simulated amp from an original amp. I record with it without any problem. The 3.50 update is scary at first because it puts the device in "fail" mode, but by following the instructions on the website and looking at the community forums, you quickly get through it.
I also want to remind that this device must be connected in a certain way; if you have an amp, it's better to have an fx loop send and return output to bypass the preamp and avoid a crappy sound, otherwise it's better not to use an amp simulator and only effects if you connect to the front of the amp. For a computer, although the Helix is a sound card by itself, I put it on my Scarlet2i2 sound card and the sound is magnificent.
In short, I also always use my analog pedals and my Line6 Helix. The debate "which is better" simply comes down to: you need to have both, that's all!
