FIrstly, I'd like to say that woodbrass.com did a fantastic job in getting the package to me in two working days- and they were very informative throughout the entire order process. Thanks!
But now to the more important matter- the case.
At first, I was a bit surprised at the size of the case. Don't get me wrong, it's by no means "ungainly', it's just bigger than I expected- the case can accomodate up to a 10" bell, and EASILY fits my double independent open-wrap Bach bass trombone. The bell part of the case seems large from the outside, but looking at it from the inside, they couldn't have made it much smaller without compromising protection, which seems to be superb by the way. Bam have done a great job of making room for a large trombone in such a shapely case.
The case comes with two shoulder straps, and these allow you to wear the trombone bell-up on your back. The case sits quite high on your back, which is probably my only complaint, as they could have achieved the same level of comfort and reduced any "sway" in the case by positioning the strap attachment a bit higher up. However, that said, the straps are very comfy, and the trombone can also be slung over one shoulder, bell down.
Inside the case, there are two "pockets": these are like little nylon zipped boxes that can be removed- one is big enough to hold about two or three mouthpieces and a wee spray bottle for your slide; the other could hold a screwdriver, pliers, pencils and all your creams and oils- once again, a great job of making room for a lot of stuff in a not-very-large space.
All in all, I think it's a very attractive case, which will protect a trombone very well, and still has room for all the things you'll need at a rehearsal. It should fit most bass trombones- there's plenty space inside, and the material is soft enough to form around the instrument without bending it.
Well done Bam, 9.5 out of 10!
