Aston Microphones Stealth

Description

The Aston Stealth is a breakthrough professional studio and stage microphone with 4 switchable sounds that deliver unmatched performance in almost any situation.

Stealth is the first microphone in the world with an auto-sensing feature that detects 48V phantom power and automatically turns the microphone on. A high quality integrated class A microphone preamp eliminates the need for an external gain enhancement device in active mode. Stealth also offers a unique Sorbothane internal shock absorber mounting system and Aston's legendary build quality. With all these advanced features and its adaptation to almost any imaginable application, we believe that Stealth is the most versatile microphone in the world.

Stealth was developed in partnership with more than 90 sound engineers, producers and high-level artists, members of the Aston 33 development panel, who participated in a series of blind listening tests designed to create the best sound possible. The resulting four tone settings, Vocal 1, Vocal 2, Guitar and Dark, offer an unprecedented variety of world-class sounds for almost any application.

Use
This is my first "semi-pro" microphone for my home studio, here are my first impressions after a month of use. The sound of the product meets expectations, sold as an extremely volatile product it proves it at every session: recordings of voice (broadcast+singing) to some acoustic guitar takes, the sound is rich and precise and the different "modes" which are not filters but separate circuits give character when you want to switch from broadcast to brighter voice takes (from D to V1) without distorting the frequency curve. It is very pleasant to note that the mic requires little (or no) mixing in post-production, the output sound is directly usable. Difficult to compare 48V to passive with good gain (from the sound card or software) but it is comfortable not to have to push the controls and just enjoy the powerful sound delivered in phantom power. The weak point is still the shockmount, the "revolutionary" plastic support that clips only at the end of the mic. The latter seems less uncertain than what is criticized in tests and reviews: the mic wiggles but the support looks sturdy. The sound is slightly nasal (especially in passive) but the phantom mode and some distance soften this characteristic effect - in any case - to the dynamic. In short, at this price you get your money's worth, a mic worth 4, capable of recording almost anything. It saves you the countless accessories and post-mix necessary for the simple "exploitation" of the SM7B and offers you a very correct and pleasant sound for sketches or even, who knows, complete projects. I approve!... (Show more)
