SA-126 SPECIAL
In 2024, we will once again challenge the "norm" with the introduction of the SA-126 Special, Wolfgang Van Halen's interpretation of what a modern 21st-century guitar should be.
The SA-126 is the very definition of innovation embodied. It is a hybrid between a semi-hollow guitar and a solid-body guitar: think of a chambered/center-block solid body combined with a bolt-on neck, then equipped with features most commonly associated with high-performance guitar brands such as a thin neck, jumbo frets, and higher-output pickups. The result of Wolfgang Van Halen's work, the instrument was created with versatility in mind, aiming to find the perfect balance between punchy rhythms and lightning-fast leads.
Here is an overview of the features.
The all-new SA-126 features a chambered mahogany body, with a basswood center block added for increased stability and tone. It is topped with a maple top on the solid finishes and a maple top on the transparent finishes with 5-ply binding; this guitar delivers "TONE." The neck has an ebony fingerboard composed of 22 frets ranging from 12 to 16 inches with jumbo frets and triple block inlays on a mahogany neck reinforced with graphite. With a scale length of 24 and three quarters... it feels like a modern classic, familiar and comfortable. Finally, a truss rod adjustment wheel at the neck end allows for on-the-fly tweaks.
The EVH SA-126 bridge and neck pickups, created by Tim Shaw, Fender’s resident pickup designer, and the EVH team, can handle anything you throw at them. From the elegant sound of cascading cleans to a heavy "Burn" overdrive bath that will satisfy the most demanding gain enthusiasts. A three-way toggle switch on the upper horn allows switching between bridge, bridge and neck, and neck pickups, along with two volumes and two tones to control each of them. Other features include a harmonica bridge and tailpiece, oversized strap buttons, and keystone tuning pegs.
