Beethoven gave this sonata the unusual title of "Sonata quasi una Fantasia", which she shares, just like the opus number, with the infinitely more famous "Moonlight Sonata". These two sonatas - together with the previous sonata and his funeral march op. 26, as well as with the three Sonatas op. 31 who will soon follow them - lead Beethoven to conquer this new musical continent of its kind. The complex structure of opus 27 n ° 1, going from fantasy to sonata and vice versa, has always required pianists to work in depth interpretation which, once mastered, brings out a real gem. This sonata is now presented by G. Henle Editions in a new edition of the Beethoven-Team Gertsch-Perahia, accompanied by the precious fingerings and interpretive advice of Murray Perahia.
