It is a great pleasure to write a foreword for the Beginner's Piano Method by Charles Hervé and Jacqueline Pouillard, a method that has been so well received in France.
As we all know, the first steps in learning the piano are of paramount importance. Here I find a refreshing—and yet logical—approach to various pedagogical challenges. Most importantly, music is made from the very beginning, avoiding tedious exercises. The piano method offers a beginner's repertoire that is interesting and varied with, of course, graduated difficulties. The visual presentation is absolutely charming and irresistible. I greatly enjoy the illustrations by J.N. Rochut. Designed with an admirable sense of humor, they are an essential part of the success of this method.
