Waves C6 is a multiband dynamic processing tool designed for fine correction and spectral shaping of complex signals. It can be used on individual tracks (vocals, snare, bass, guitar, synthesizer, piano) as well as on buses (drums, instruments) and on the master. Its main advantage: to act precisely on a problematic frequency range (resonance, harshness, boominess, hardness, sibilance, hiss) while maintaining overall balance, thanks to dynamics applied only where necessary.
The C6 combines equalization and dynamics very flexibly: for example, you can limit the low end to tighten a bass or kick, compress the mids to stabilize a saturated guitar, use upward expansion in the upper midrange to gain articulation, then expand the highs to control hiss or a "hissing" sensation. Each band becomes a spectral control module, designed for quick yet extremely precise adjustments.
With its 4 crossover bands and 2 floating bands, the C6 excels at "invisible" corrections: reducing a snare resonance, taming vocal harshness, controlling an overpowering low end in a mix, or stabilizing a wide-band synth without flattening it. Used as a dynamic EQ, it allows processing a frequency range only when it exceeds a certain level, avoiding overly harsh static cuts.
The C6 can monitor and react to a sidechain input. This enables advanced uses: making an instrument's low-mid "breathe" when the vocal comes in, controlling a bass frequency when the kick hits, or triggering targeted compression on a specific area from another track. The result: a clearer, more stable mix without overall overcompression.
To speed up workflow, the C6 replaces some traditional controls with a Range parameter, which defines the maximum amount of gain reduction or increase (positive or negative). The Threshold then sets the level at which the action begins. This logic makes the plugin very effective for quick and clean corrections, especially in dense mixing or mastering.
Dynamic processors follow the attack you set and offer several release behaviors: a smoother opto-style response, a faster reaction for tighter control, or an Auto-Release mode that adapts to the program. This helps preserve groove and punch while maintaining a natural sound.
