Waves GEQ Graphic Equalizer is a graphic equalization plugin designed to correct, balance, and shape an audio signal with an immediate "console" logic, while offering refinements worthy of a modern EQ. It excels both in live sound reinforcement (global system EQ, room acoustic adaptation, resonance control) and in studio production (cleaning, highlighting a source, creating creative curves, sound design).
Thanks to its 30 bands, GEQ allows for "scalpel-like" work on the spectrum, stabilizing a mix, or making quick adjustments on buses (vocals, drums, guitars, synths) with exemplary clarity. Its zero latency operation also makes it relevant for recording and situations where responsiveness is a priority.
GEQ offers two equalization behaviors to suit your intention. The Classic mode uses a traditional graphic equalizer filter topology, with a musical approach and familiar sound. The Modern mode relies on "flat-top" filters designed to reduce artifacts caused by band interactions, resulting in cleaner and more predictable "stepped" shapes.
At the heart of Waves GEQ are 30 graphic equalization bands allowing fine corrections, whether to remove harshness, open presence, tame intrusive bass, or refine the overall balance. The stereo/mono link facilitates coherent work on both channels while remaining flexible depending on the context.
Beyond the "pure" graphic EQ, GEQ integrates variable frequency high-pass and low-pass filters to immediately frame the low and high ends of the spectrum. It also adds a "floating" parametric stage with a bell-shaped response, adjustable in frequency, gain, and Q factor, very useful for targeting a precise area without disturbing your overall design across the 30 faders.
The plugin features a calibratable dual-input real-time analyzer (RTA), handy for visualizing and comparing, controlling a correction, or securing quick decisions in live conditions. The interface, designed to be touchscreen-compatible, also allows for smooth drawing of EQ curves, speeding up work during repeated adjustments.
With a range of +/-18 dB per band, GEQ handles demanding corrections, from acoustic compensation to more radical equalization effects. In live settings, its zero latency promotes stability and immediacy. In the studio, it can be used to sculpt tone, build original curves, and explore creative approaches, especially when aiming to distribute frequency energy differently within the stereo image.
