Description

The chekeré is a percussion instrument used especially in the Mandingo music of West Africa, as well as in Cuba and Brazil. We also note that it is written "Shekere", "Sekere" (in English) or "xequerê" (in Brazil) and is also called "Djabara". It is most often made from a variety of squash, the "calabash". This is dried and worked then a mesh (a kind of net) with seeds or pearls is fixed on it. Dimensions are of different shapes (with or without handle), It is played by shaking it, striking it with the hand, rotating it, throwing it and recovering it in rhythm.

- Made in Africa.
