Peavey, founded in 1965 by Hartley Peavey, established itself as a major amplification brand, capable of covering both the professional world and more accessible formats. The Decade fits this philosophy: a compact combo with a grey/black look, born from the spirit of "plug and play" amps and updated in a reissue of the famous 1980s Decade, revisited with inspiration from Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age, Eagles of Death Metal).
The Peavey Decade targets guitarists who want a small, simple but characterful combo: perfect for practicing at reasonable volume, for recording sessions where a direct tone is sought, or as a second amp that's easy to transport. It is particularly suited to rock, blues, garage, stoner genres and all styles where pick attack and dynamics need to remain clear, from tight cleans to biting crunch, up to dense saturation.
The preamp section combines Pre Gain (drive level) and Post Gain (output level) to precisely dial in the transition from clean to saturated. The 3-band EQ is enhanced by two switches, Bass and Top, which add targeted boost to lows and highs, useful for adapting the amp to a room, a mic, or a guitar. The SATURATION switch adds a richer texture with more sustain. For pedalboard and studio integration, the effects send/return loop features remote activation, and the amp offers an unbalanced 6.35mm Jack line output as well as a XLR direct output with level control, Ground Lift, and phase inversion to better manage feedback depending on the setup.
Despite its transistor architecture, the Decade favors a lively and immediate response: firm and punchy cleans, a granular crunch that reacts well to guitar volume, and a thicker saturation via the SATURATION mode, designed to provide a sensation of musical sustain and compression. The Celestion 8" speaker (inspired by the 1980-83 Rola models) reinforces the "vintage punchy" side, with a present midrange that helps the guitar cut through a mix, whether mic'd or via the XLR direct output.
