With the Pulse, NUX extends the spirit of the Mini Core series: an ultra-compact format, but designed for current uses (direct-to-PA playing, home recording, portable pedalboards). The concept is simple: place a speaker cabinet and microphone simulation at the end of the chain to regain the feel of a "finished" signal without carrying around an amp and cab, while maintaining a natural touch thanks to an analog dry path and optimized digital processing.
The Pulse is aimed equally at electric guitarists and bassists, and can also be very useful for acoustic guitarists (depending on your microphone, piezo or magnetic). It's an excellent choice to start a "direct" setup, to secure a live configuration (output to mixing console), or to quickly record on a computer without hassle.
In practice, it is ideally placed at the end of the pedalboard (after your drives and modulations, and often after your delays/reverbs), or behind a preamp/drive to simulate the speaker cabinet and microphone. And for late-night practice, the headphone output allows silent playing without an amp.
The NUX Pulse gets straight to the point with 3 potentiometers : Level (output volume), Space (space/depth, to add air to the simulation), and IR (selection). You have 3 IR families (electric guitar, electric bass, acoustic guitar) to quickly adapt the response and tonal balance to your instrument.
To easily integrate into any chain, the pedal offers two bypass modes (true bypass or buffered bypass with trails) and mono or stereo management via 6.35mm Jack jacks compatible with TRS. The USB-C port serves both for audio (streaming/recording) and firmware updates, while providing access to the Pulse Editor to load third-party IRs and adjust certain IR parameters.
The Pulse does not aim to artificially "color" the sound: it mainly emphasizes bass coherence, midrange clarity, and attack, directly depending on the chosen IR. The result is responsive to playing and usable both for rhythm and lead, with a feeling of a more "mix-ready" signal than a simple sound from pedals plugged in directly.
Its discreet format does not prevent it from being adopted in real situations: guitarists like Dylan Carlson (Earth) have already integrated this type of compact IR loader into minimalist pedalboards, precisely to gain consistency and mobility.
