The PRS Custom 24 is the guitar that launched the PRS adventure: first introduced to the public at the 1985 Winter NAMM show, it has become the showcase of Core made in USA craftsmanship. This 2024 model retains the Custom 24 DNA (sculpted lines, "Birds" inlays, tonal balance), while integrating the evolution of Core tuners with new "Wing" buttons, designed to better preserve string energy and promote longer, more musical resonance.
Designed for intermediate to expert guitarists, the Custom 24 is aimed at those seeking a high-end electric capable of seamlessly handling studio, stage, and rehearsals without compromise. Its architecture and electronics make it particularly comfortable in rock, pop, fusion, modern metal, and blues, with a genuine ability to switch from sharp, precise tones to rounder, singing textures in one move via the 5-position selector.
The acoustic foundation of this PRS is based on a mahogany solidbody, appreciated for its density, rich mids, and warm character, while the carved maple top adds attack, definition, and better chord clarity. The PRS 85/15 pickups, designed by Paul Reed Smith, deliver an extended response in lows and highs: remarkable clarity in clean tones, and saturation that remains articulate even at high gain settings. The volume + tone controls allow quick sculpting of the balance, and the 5-position selector provides a highly usable palette of registers to cover multiple genres with a single guitar.
Delivered with a case, the guitar comes factory-strung with 10-46 gauge strings: a replacement set of the same gauge will be ideal to maintain the feel, tension, and vibrato balance. For routine maintenance, also consider picks and a microfiber cloth.
