Legacy 810e
This retrospective collection of guitars pays homage to the legacy of Taylor's founders, Bob Taylor and Kurt Listug, and their contributions to the world of guitar making with models that channel Bob's early design inspirations and innovations.
The Taylor Guitars Legacy Collection celebrates half a century of Taylor's musical innovation.
We are excited to launch our collection with five acoustic models that honor our heritage. Three are reimagined rosewood/spruce models from our iconic 800 series, which date back to some of Bob Taylor's earliest guitars. The other two highlight Bob's Grand Auditorium body style, which has become the definition of Taylor's modern sound. Inspired by Bob's original constructions, these retrospective models reflect our entire history by blending fundamental design elements with key developments over time. The first 100 guitars built of each model feature an interior label personally signed by Taylor's founders, Bob Taylor and Kurt Listug.
A blend of old and new
These guitars are not mere reissues of the originals. Instead, they reflect the fundamental qualities of the original constructions while updating certain features where appropriate. Bob Taylor personally oversaw the development of these guitars, selecting design elements and drawing inspiration from his personal history with them. The result is a collection with the look, feel, and sound of true "legacy" guitars, but subtly reimagined with aesthetic refinements and performance enhancements introduced during Bob's tenure as Taylor's guitar designer (before Andy Powers arrived).
The three Indian rosewood/Sitka spruce guitars feature subtly updated versions of the Dreadnought and Jumbo body shapes that Bob initially inherited from Sam Radding, owner of the American Dream workshop that he and his co-founder partner Kurt Listug bought together.
Notable details for the three guitars include:
Body and head shape: The body is slightly newer than Bob's earliest versions but still older. The head is an earlier "straight-ear" shape with a rosewood veneer.
X-bracing: The pattern is a version used on Taylor's Dreadnoughts and Jumbos before Andy Powers arrived.
Taylor patented neck: Bob's revolutionary neck design (formerly known as the NT neck) allows for easy micro-adjustment and optimal playability/performance over time.
Bridge style: The Dreadnought 810e will have Taylor's recognizable modern shape.
Features: The aesthetic details are reminiscent of the early 800 series models, with a clean and classic aesthetic that Bob loves: white plastic binding, three-ring green abalone rosette, unengraved Large Diamond mother-of-pearl fretboard inlays, ebony bridge pins with green abalone dots, body and neck with gloss finish, faux tortoiseshell pickguard, and Taylor nickel tuning machines.
Onboard electronics: LR Baggs Element VTC (volume, tone, compression), with an under-saddle pickup and a fully discrete class A preamp that includes a volume and tone control mounted in the soundhole.
