Legacy 815e
This retrospective family of guitars honors the legacy of Taylor founders Bob Taylor and Kurt Listug and their contributions to the world of guitar-making with models that channel Bob’s early inspirations and design innovations.
The Taylor Guitars Legacy Collection celebrates a half-century of Taylor musical innovation.
We’re excited to debut our collection with five acoustic models that honor our heritage. Three are reimagined rosewood/spruce models from our iconic 800 Series, which trace back to some of Bob Taylor’s earliest guitars. The other two spotlight Bob’s flagship Grand Auditorium body style, which came to define the modern Taylor sound. Inspired by Bob’s original builds, these retrospective models reflect the full scope of our history by blending foundational design elements with key developments along the way. The first 100 guitars built of each model feature an interior label personally signed by Taylor founders Bob Taylor and Kurt Listug.
A Blend of Old and New
These guitars are not pure reissues of the originals. But they do reflect the fundamental qualities of the original builds, while updating select features where appropriate. Bob Taylor personally oversaw the development of these guitars, curating the design elements and drawing from his own personal history with them. The result is a collection with the look, feel and sound of true "legacy" guitars, but subtly reimagined with aesthetic refinements and performance enhancements introduced over the course of Bob’s tenure as Taylor’s guitar designer (before Andy Powers arrived).
All three Indian rosewood/Sitka spruce guitars feature subtly updated versions of the Dreadnought and Jumbo body shapes Bob originally inherited from Sam Radding, owner of the American Dream shop that he and co-founding partner Kurt Listug purchased together.
Notable details for all three guitars include:
Body and peghead shape: The bodyis slightly newer than Bob’s earliestversions but still older. The peghead is an earlier “straight-ear” shape with a rosewood veneer.
X-bracing: The pattern is a version used on Taylor Dreadnoughts andJumbos prior to the arrival of AndyPowers.
Patented Taylor neck: Bob’sbreakthrough neck design (formerlyknown as the NT neck) enableseasy micro-adjustability and optimalplayability/performance over time.
Bridge style: The Dreadnought 810e willhave Taylor’s recognizable modern shape;the two Jumbos will feature Taylor’s vintagemustache-style bridge.
Appointments: The aesthetic details recallthose of the early 800 Series models, witha clean, classic aesthetic Bob loves: whiteplastic binding, three-ring green abalonerosette, non-engraved mother-of-pearl LargeDiamond fretboard inlays, ebony bridge pinswith green abalone dots, gloss-finish body andneck, faux tortoiseshell pickguard and Taylornickel tuning machines.
Onboard Electronics: LR Baggs ElementVTC (volume, tone, compression), featuringan undersaddle pickup and all-discrete,Class A preamp that includes a soundhole mounted volume and tone control.
