An optimized YAS-275

Based on the design of the highly acclaimed YAS-275, the YAS-280 saxophone offers a few improvements, such as a new neck joint ring and a new connection for the low Bb-C keys, for optimal adjustment and perfect projection.
The neck joint clamp: A new neck joint clamp has been designed to provide a faster response and easier playing. In addition, its design makes it more robust over time.
The low Bb-C# key lever: The new low Bb-C# key lever has been perfected, ensuring perfect sealing of the low C# key and a clear response in the low register.
Adjustable thumb rest: All Yamaha saxophones are equipped with an adjustable thumb rest for better hand and finger positioning and greater playing comfort.

Having tried the WSA-100 and SML Paris A300 before the Yamaha YAS-280, unsurprisingly the YAS-280 proves to be more focused, with an astonishing ease of play, both in terms of sound and fingerings. However, the sound lacks much personality compared to my old Selmer (I'm stating the obvious), but it fulfills its function well as a student saxophone. My daughter, who is moving from a curved soprano to this alto, immediately found her bearings and already produces a correct and accurate sound from the first handling. For a more experienced saxophonist, they will need to turn to a more assertive mouthpiece to make it sound as it should. Small details: the soldering is lead-free.

Study saxophone as indicated. Its sound is right and just. Lacks warmth but with another mouthpiece already reveals more harmonies and "sounds" better. For a child, it remains a safe bet nonetheless.
