The 18S was developed to acoustically match Dynaudio Pro monitors, from the BM Classic series to the LYD. Its approach is based on DSP modeling and performance maps dedicated to specific speakers, aiming to achieve filtering and level coherence closer to a system designed as a whole. The idea is simple: add true low-end without losing monitoring neutrality, and evolve integration through firmware updates as new monitors join the range.
The Dynaudio Pro 18S targets studios that want to secure mixing decisions in the low frequencies: kick/bass balance, sub control, low-end compression management, and verification of translation on other systems. It is equally relevant for mixing and mastering, especially in rooms where the low end is difficult to interpret. In stereo or surround setups (notably with a LYD 48 installation), it extends monitoring capabilities and approaches a more complete listening experience, while maintaining ergonomics adapted for daily use.
The 18S features an advanced DSP with presets designed to pair with several Dynaudio Pro monitors. Through the screen and menu system, you select the speakers used to adapt the roll-off and crossover filters. The result: a cleaner transition between subwoofer and satellites, and more reliable bass monitoring at working levels.
To avoid muddy or hollow bass caused by delays, the 18S offers time alignment: you enter the distance between the subwoofer and the speakers, and the system applies delay and phase adjustments for more coherent synchronization. A 0/180 degrees phase adjustment is also available to optimize bass summation depending on placement.
The bass region is the most sensitive to acoustics. The 18S integrates a three-filter parametric equalizer to quickly attenuate resonances and room modes that distort perception. This is a key asset for regaining a more linear low-end without multiplying external units.
The 18S relies on two MSP+ Hybrid Drive woofers specifically designed for subwoofer use, with a hybrid construction (aluminum, paper cone support, and MSP dust cap) aiming for a balance between rigidity, lightness, and damping. The dual opposed driver design contributes to cleaner, better-controlled bass, with mechanical behavior suited to demanding monitoring applications.
To integrate into various environments, the 18S offers balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA inputs/outputs. A master/slave function allows chaining multiple subwoofers when the configuration requires it, while maintaining clear control logic. Finally, Auto ON/OFF management simplifies daily use.
