The Neve 1073 has established itself as an absolute reference thanks to its immediately recognizable character: full low-mids, sharp attacks, silky highs, and a sense of "presence" that places the source front and center in a mix. The 1073DPD follows this tradition by retaining the analog Class A architecture that made the 1073 famous, while meeting the current needs of hybrid studios. Whereas a "classic" 1073 is limited to analog output, the 1073DPD goes further by integrating A/D converters and digital outputs: you get the same sonic DNA, with a direct capture ready for the digital audio workstation.
The 1073DPD is aimed at recording studios, post-production control rooms, high-end home studios, and sound engineers who want two premium channels capable of recording immediately in digital, without multiplying boxes. It excels on vocal takes (pop, rap, voice-over), acoustic guitars, amps, overheads, brass, and strings-anywhere a preamp that adds body, impact, and beautiful depth is sought. Thanks to the integrated conversion, it naturally fits into a low-friction workflow: you plug in a mic or line, set the gain, and capture in the format suited to your session, from standard projects to high-resolution productions.
At the rear, the mic and line inputs feed two Class A gain stages. You have adjustable gain to tailor the headroom to each source, as well as selectable 48 V phantom power on the mic inputs to fully exploit your condenser microphones. This design aims to preserve the preamp's musical behavior: lively dynamics, elegant harmonic saturation when pushed, and an excellent sense of "texture" right from the capture.
The 1073DPD also offers Class A analog XLR outputs on the rear panel. On the front, the Trim controls allow a level adjustment of +/-10 dB, useful for optimizing a recording, adapting output level for analog chaining, or fine-tuning the operating point before conversion, all while preserving the circuit's character.
The great strength of the 1073DPD is combining Neve's analog color with a Neve-designed analog-to-digital conversion. You can capture your performances at standard sampling rates up to 192 kHz, and also benefit from a DSD output (Direct Stream Digital) for environments and productions that favor this format. The result: you keep the "tone" of the 1073 and bring it directly into your digital chain, without relying on an external converter.
Analog insertion points placed upstream of the A/D converters facilitate the integration of external processing (compression, EQ, de-essing) without sacrificing the Neve sonic identity. This is a major asset in the studio: you can sculpt the sound with your favorite outboard gear, then convert afterward, maintaining level coherence and a clean, controlled signal chain.
