The Scarlett OctoPre Dynamic fits within the Scarlett range extension logic: increasing the number of available channels without changing the interface. While a simple ADAT preamp only adds inputs, this Dynamic version goes further by integrating analog compression on each of the 8 channels, ideal for securing takes right from recording. It also follows Focusrite's approach: 2nd generation Scarlett preamps, refined conversion, and connectivity designed for long-term integration into a studio rack.
The Scarlett OctoPre Dynamic is tailored for setups lacking mic/line inputs: drum recording (kick, snare, toms, overheads), live band recording, multichannel capture during rehearsals, or expanding a home studio stepping up its game. Inputs 1 and 2 are switchable to instrument level, allowing direct connection of a bass or guitar, convenient for quick sessions without an external DI box.
The 2nd generation Scarlett preamps are designed to handle high-output sources while remaining clean, even when the session gets dense. In the studio, this translates to more stable takes, less unexpected saturation, and a solid foundation before processing in your DAW.
Each channel features an analog compressor with adjustable Soft-Knee: in standard setting, compression remains subtle and controls dynamics without altering the signal's character. Activate the "More" button to double the ratio and achieve more pronounced compression, useful for taming an aggressive snare, smoothing a vocal, or adding sustain to a bass.
In addition to the A/D converters sending your 8 inputs to ADAT, the OctoPre Dynamic offers 8-channel D/A conversion at line level via its balanced TRS outputs. The two ADAT ports (input/output) facilitate expansion and routing, whether to feed monitor mixes, external processing, or a console.
