Taylor Guitars Bt2 Baby

Description

BT2

Your favourite travel buddy is here and it’s called the Baby Taylor! This 3/4 size dreadnought with Mahogany top for a slightly deeper sound and layered walnut back and sides may be small - but packs a lot of features and maintains an authentic Taylor sound. Dinky on the hands, it's as appealing to kids who want to start out on their musical journey as it is to the seasoned strummer or fingerpicker looking for a new travel companion.

Baby

A versatile, small bodied guitar that delivers an authentic Taylor playing experience.
  • 3/4-size Dreadnought
  • Arched back for added strength
  • Great for travel, alternate tunings, and kids
A ¾-size Dreadnought that's big on tone.
A ¾-scale Dreadnought, the Baby Taylor is designed to yield a ton of volume for its small size. A layered sapele back is pressed into a slight arch, providing strength and helping produce the Baby’s full, rich tone. It’s also remarkably versatile for special applications, whether played in alternate tunings or high-strung; with a capo or a slide. And it’s the perfect travel companion or starter guitar for young kids.
Taylor’s ¾-size mini-Dreadnought helped spawn the travel guitar market with a well-crafted design that blends musicality and playability. Its small size also makes it a great starter guitar for kids and an ultra-compact songwriting guitar, and adds a unique acoustic flavor to a music mix.

Layered Sapele

Layered sapele, used for Taylor backs and sides, incorporates three layers of climate resilient wood, featuring a middle core of poplar with a striking outer veneer of Sapele. Though not as tonally complex as its solid-wood counterpart, layered sapele is a strong, stable body wood that ensures vibrant tone and long-lasting durability.

Tropical Mahogany

Mahogany is known for its meaty midrange character, featuring a strong fundamental focus often described as “punchy,” “woody,” or “dry,” because it doesn’t produce a lot of ringing overtones. Mahogany’s earthy voice has been featured on many roots music recordings over the years. Mahogany is a good wood to anchor a discussion of tones, as a lot of other wood tones can be described in relation to it. Its essential sonic profile is well represented in the midrange frequencies. Acoustic guitars in general tend to live in the midrange portion of the sound spectrum, but mahogany in particular displays a lot of midrange character. That thick, present midrange sound is sometimes described in guitar circles as meaty, organic or even chewy; whenever a player digs in on the fretboard, they're tapping into the core of the harmonic content of what a guitar produces. Those great midrange frequencies produce overtones that stack up and produce bloom, giving the sound extra girth. When one hears the resulting harmonics, the chewy tone serves up a big mouthful of midrange. As a popular tonewood for many decades, mahogany has been used on scads of old school acoustic recordings, and that sonic heritage carries across various strains of roots music, from blues to folk to slack key.

I hesitated for a long time between this baby Taylor and the Martin LXK2, a bit more expensive and less easily available. I was convinced by its solid top, imagining it would improve with time... Upon receipt, after 1 week of intensive playing, I am really satisfied with this Taylor: the finish is sober and beautiful and the adjustments are quite good: neck with very well set action right out of its case, which is quite rare and worth mentioning as it easily saves €50 in luthier adjustments... the neck is very thin, easy to barre like on a Stratocaster and particularly accurate, another point that surprised me. The tuners are precise and the tuning is fine. The frets are well filed, no touch-up needed and the strings are Elixir (light gauge and soft coating), I find them quite pleasant with this guitar size. The solid mahogany top is one piece, the back is very rounded, it's nice to see, and when you play it without pressing on its back you feel a lot of beautiful vibrations coming out. The register is very midrange in strumming but the basses still express a bit in picking. It also takes some adaptation to fit the fingers on the small frets but it's a guitar size that will delight small female or child hands. Ideal therefore to start folk guitar from 10-12 years old. Finally, the case is very beautiful, the adjustment docs in English are nice and the 3/4 size really ideal to take on a walk or practice lying on your couch in front of a football match :)... eventually, I will consider equipping it with a piezo pickup because its warm and muffled tone suits well to fingerpicking songs: a good amp behind it would enhance its nice character. I can give it 5 stars since I had no bad material or auditory surprise upon unboxing.... (Show more)

Superb guitar! Visually very simple but very beautiful, you can see that it is solid wood, you can admire the mahogany grain. The beauty seems somewhat fragile though, to be seen in the long term. In terms of handling, it is immediate, the neck is ultra comfortable, short scale length, pure happiness! Recommended string gauge 12-53. Sound-wise, I must say it's downright amazing, this is my 3rd travel guitar and I think I've found the right one, very good sound projection, balanced sound, loaded with mids for sure (let's not forget it's a small-bodied guitar) but the bass is well present! The mahogany really brings roundness and depth to the sound, which is very surprising and very appreciable for a guitar of this size. Of all the travel guitars I've tried, this one has the most bass, and it's also the one that seduced me the most. In short, very satisfied with this guitar, only small downside: a truss rod adjustment would have been appreciated before shipping, it buzzes...... (Show more)

this little baby quickly found its place, never far from my knees. An astonishing power and projection for a guitar of this size, a perfect neck, an immediate grip, a warm sound thanks to the mahogany, even the basses are present. This Taylor baby has nothing to envy from many big ones. And all this at a rock-bottom price, run to try one!!!!

Surprising this BT2 all mahogany ... Small guitar that has a clear and precise sound but necessarily lacks bass given the size of the body. A nice guitar. Thanks again to woodbrass for the ultra-fast delivery despite the Christmas holidays and bad weather!!!

Very very good product, easily portable, beautiful (even the cover is magnificent!), good sound for a 3/4! You get used very quickly to the neck and the smaller frets than usual... Only downside, those big screws on the neck :'( Very ugly!
