The PRS Archon Classic is a powerful two-channel amplifier designed for rock musicians seeking classic tones while having the ability to go further. With an improved gain structure compared to the original Archon, the Archon Classic’s Lead channel offers a wider range of gain textures—especially in the mids—and the Clean channel can effortlessly shift from pure clean tones to borderline breakup. The Archon Classic’s three-dimensional sound delivers sumptuous highs and deep lows while maintaining excellent note separation and articulation.
The Archon Classic’s intuitive control layout, featuring 3-band EQs, allows musicians to fine-tune their tones. Individual channel volume controls and the Master volume work together to control the amp’s volume and saturation. The Bright switch acts almost like a high-frequency boost, highlighting the amp’s upper spectrum without pushing into extreme frequencies. The global Presence and Depth controls of the power amp section modify the amp’s feedback network to respectively unleash its potential in the highs and lows. Increasing the Presence setting releases more upper-mid and high frequencies, bringing the amp’s sound forward. Depending on volume and EQ settings, the Presence control can alter gain/texture and the intensity of the highs, making your sound wilder and more three-dimensional (or even more “present”). In addition to adding bass, the Depth control allows you to choose between a tight, focused sound or a more resonant, bass-rich response. For musicians wanting to add external effects, the Archon Classic offers a wide dynamic range and an integrated tube-powered effects loop, alongside its ultra-clean sonic platform.
