Billaudot ESCAICH THIERRY - SHORT STORIES - SONATE POUR VIOLON ET PIANO

Description

A tribute to cinema, one could say, to describe the universe of this piece which, from then on, can be heard as a series of five short films linked by a leitmotif. This characteristic theme with its falls of descending fourths and its rhythmic 7 is metamorphosed according to these five movements and will ensure the transitions between each of these worlds.

Each of these stories, without being explicitly linked to a particular film, feeds on my improvisational experience that has led me to accompany so many silent movies for over twenty years. It is certain, for example, that the inhuman machineries of Metropolis by Fritz Lang inspired the cold and haunting rhythmic writing of the first piece, and that the memory of the wild charleston staged by Jean Renoir in Sur un air de Charleston irradiates the central scherzo, while the second story gives voice to a song seeming to come from the East, declaimed on an inexorable drum background. It is on a kind of slow traveling almost unreal where time finally seems to be distended that opens the fourth movement before jumping, after some unsuccessful attempts, in a brief summary final.
