Edvard Grieg Sonata for violin in G major op. 13
Ernst-Günter Heinemann (Publisher)
Einar Steen-Nøkleberg (Publisher, Fingers)
Ernst Schliephake (Fingered violin)
Urtext Edition, paperbound
rope part with or without fingering
Of Grieg's three sonatas for violin, it is the Great Sonata in C minor op. 45 which is today the best known. Wrong, because the first two sonatas delight with their fun of the game and their tone of youthful freshness. In addition, their lower technical requirements make them already accessible to advanced students. Composed in 1867, the Violin Sonata in G major op. 13 is obviously imbued with Grieg's enthusiastic interest in Norwegian popular music, whose first and last movements, lively, take the traditional "Springtanz" ("dance sautée") as a model. This urtext edition is based not only on the second printed edition of 1887, reviewed by Grieg himself, but also on the autograph manuscript of Stockholm, which offers a very reliable musical text.
