It is alongside Pierre Baillot and Rodolphe Kreutzer that Pierre Rode founded, at the end of the 18th century, the important Franco-Belgian violin school. The violinist, celebrated throughout Europe, transmits, with his "24 Caprices in the Form of Studies" written in all the tones, an impressive testimony of his know-how. Totally focused on the learning of technical phenomena, he realized compositions of a high value, reminiscent of the Paganini pieces of the same name. Until today, "Caprices" remain a cornerstone of the formation of each violinist (higher level). The urtext edition of the G. Henle Editions begins by explaining in detail the problematic of the sources (first edition and revised edition), and presents the score in its "last-hand version" with all the historical indications. The violinist Friedemann Eichhorn, as a leading Rode specialist, has accompanied this edition by providing him with his permanent expertise, and providing it with fingering and bowing adapted to the modern violin course.
