Whether this origin is true or not, these descriptive words are characteristics that characterize jazz today, as they have throughout its history. The legacy of jazz and its impact on music as we know it are monumental. Perhaps no musical style has successfully crossed cultural boundaries, survived fads and trends, or been as seminal as jazz in producing great instrumentalists. This genre not only produced some of the most iconic artists in history, but also immortalized the drum set, placing it at the center of the stage.
