"The idea behind these duet studies is to enable students at the beginning of their second cycle to confront new technical difficulties, while at the same time performing a musical act. They fill a gap in the teaching repertoire, in terms of both content and form. Modelled on the higher-level '12 études concertantes' (published by Billaudot), each of these pieces has its own musical colours, but also its own problems: sonority, legato, detachment, mixtures of bars, arpeggios, ornamentation and so on. What's more, these etudes bring into play all the specific elements of chamber music: listening, intonation, phrasing, musicality and so on. The two voices are of equal difficulty, allowing the instrumentalists to change parts in turn for even greater enjoyment. The recording of each separate voice has been designed so that the solo student can easily play in a duet, thanks to the addition of clicks enabling him to refine his listening and his pulse, before sharing these studies with a musical partner, during an audition or a concert".
