We produced the EMI TG12413 Zener Limiter to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Abbey Road Studios. Based on the circuits of the vintage EMI console used by the Beatles and Pink Floyd, the Zener was designed by Wade Goeke, a designer at Chandler Limited. This version combines the features of the RS168 Zener Limiter and the TG12345 console, providing a complete and versatile solution for today's applications. Interestingly, the TG Limiter was originally designed to replace the Fairchild 660 (limiter mode) and the Altec 436/RS124 (compressor 1 mode).
The main reason we decided to optimize the Zener Limiter was to equip the powerful vintage TG circuitry with new, more flexible features. Wade has therefore equipped it with several new features: a switch for adjusting the input impedance to suit the application, 11-position attack and 21-position release controls, a side chain control circuit, and Comp1, Comp2, and Limit controls. This exceptional limiter is reborn from EMI/Abbey Road's rich history in a modern format suitable for recording, mixing, and mastering applications. The rest is NEW EMI/Abbey Road history.
