The CCM 41 is highly directional. Off-axis sound is attenuated even more than with a cardioid. The microphone is drier and less susceptible to acoustic feedback than any other type of SCHOEPS microphone (a loudspeaker, however, should not be placed directly along the rear axis of the microphone). Its directivity is highly frequency-independent, so even off-axis and reverberant sounds are captured without coloration. Therefore, even if the capsule is placed at a certain distance, the sound pickup is very natural. This is a real advantage over hyperdirectional shotgun microphones with interference tubes, whose directivity is highly frequency-independent—only exceeding that of a supercardioid at the highest frequencies. Interference tube microphones are notoriously sensitive to their position in a room, where variations in reflections lead to corresponding changes in the color and timbre of the sound.
