opsix SE, ALTERED FM SYNTHESIZER

The perfect union of power and performance

The opsix SE is a unique digital synth. With its all-metal design, 61 keys and aftertouch, it opens up a whole new world of sonic possibilities. Building on the vast sound engine of the original opsix, the opsix SE enhances it by increasing polyphony and the number of voices, resulting in a synthesizer designed for superior performance and precise control. The Opsix Operator Mixer has simplified the approach to FM synthesis, making it not only understandable but also controllable. With the addition of further synthesis and programming capabilities, it offers a more efficient workflow and an even richer sound. The opsix SE goes even further. It's equipped with Korg's top-of-the-line 61-key keyboard with aftertouch, offering an exceptional tactile experience expected from Korg's flagship workstations. Featuring a sleek, rugged metal body, it's designed to withstand concert tours and meet the precision demands of studio sessions. The metal knobs are optimised for effortless adjustment. Beneath its exterior, the opsix SE boasts an incredible 80 stereo voices of polyphony. The opsix SE arrives preloaded with hundreds of sounds enhanced for aftertouch control. Moreover, it is fully compatible with the sounds and samples from both the original opsix and the opsix Native software, including numerous high-quality libraries.

Designed for playing.

The opsix SE was born out of a desire to play this incredible synth with both hands. Featuring a high-end 61-note keyboard with a natural feel, the opsix SE offers the same exceptional real-time response as KORG's high-end workstations. Aftertouch gives you unrivalled control of all the opsix's great sounds at your fingertips. Of course, we've updated the factory performance to suit aftertouch, and we've introduced some new ones too. In fact, most opsix SE programs have been revised to make full use of aftertouch, extended keyboard and polyphony.

Premium metal design

The opsix SE features a significant improvement in aesthetics. A sleek, purpose-built shell features a brown-painted aluminium control panel, paying homage to vintage machines. Combined with the bright LEDs, it brings an intense energy to any stage performance. The side panels, painted in an elegant black metal, amplify the overall aesthetic for a luxurious finish.

Exclusive case included

The opsix SE comes in a dedicated hard case, including space for cables and a sustain pedal. Your instrument can travel protected, whether you're taking it to a rehearsal in town or packing it for a tour.

Platinum limited edition

To celebrate the release of the long-awaited opsix SE, a magnificent Platinum (*) model will be available in very limited numbers. * The differences are purely cosmetic - the specification is exactly the same as the standard model. The opsix SE Platinum includes an exclusive set of stickers. https://www.korg.com/products/synthesizers/opsix_se_platinum/

Let your imagination light up with the Operator Mixer

At the heart of every sound is the opsix SE Operator Mixer - a simple set of six sliders and buttons that invite exploration. Each part lights up red to indicate carriers or blue for modulators. Manipulating them opens up new possibilities for shaping the sound and breathing new life into your musical ideas. This simple, practical workflow is part of what makes the opsix SE so unique, just like the sounds it delivers.

Direct control at your fingertips

Whether you're fine-tuning a preset or creating a patch from scratch, the six data control knobs on the right give you quick access to the parameters you need and sync seamlessly with the large OLED display, giving you clear, precise direction for your workflow. Coupled with the mixer, it makes creating new sounds easy and, above all, fun! Choose from a full range of analogue filters, from the Korg MS-20 low-pass/high-pass filter to the KORG Polysix low-pass filter, which is both powerful and smooth, giving your sound a vintage feel. There are also low-pass, high-pass, band-pass and two- and four-pole band-rejection filters with resonance. The built-in spectrum analyser and oscilloscope let you visualise the music you're creating on-screen.

Six synthesizers in one

The heart of opsix is nothing less than exponential. Because waveforms can be arranged and modulated in almost infinite ways, opsix can easily perform sound work similar to many types of synthesis:

Subtractive

The opsix uses up to six envelopes and multi-modelled filters to achieve a wide range of classic and avant-garde analogue synthesis sounds.

Semi-modular

Signal rerouting to modify the sound. A trip to the Algorithm section allows you to radically reshape the sound by changing the routing of the signal between operators, without the need for any connecting cables.

Analog (Modeling)

Analogue-style controls and numerous stackable waveforms let you switch from digital to analogue in no time. Enjoy deep bass, precise leads, thick pad sounds, fuzzy brass sounds and much more.

Waveshaping

Add intentional distortion to waveforms to create aggressive or inharmonic harmonics. The result is gritty, biting tones full of character.

Additive

Stacking waveforms and mixing their harmonics is the key to a wide range of harmonious, dissonant and tension-driven sounds. With six operators available, the full FM experience is possible, including the ability to go back in time to classic sounds you've heard throughout recording history.

Classic FM

Finally, opsix's extremely flexible and powerful architecture starts with true six-operator FM. As a result, it easily delivers characteristic sounds that you're sure to have heard on thousands of hits from the 80s to today, and with far more polyphony than other standalone FM synths available today. With so many ways to realise and explore sounds, the opsix SE is a unique 'future-modern-classical' synth!

Augmented reality

opsix SE is based on FM, but the similarities with classical synthesis end there. The augmented FM architecture offers sounds across a vast spectrum, far wider than any single synthesis has been able to cover before, thanks to new sound components; new waveforms, filters, shaping, effects, LFOs, envelopes, modulations, and more, all of which translate into a wide assortment of sounds.

Powerful effects processing

opsix SE offers three blocks of 30 types of high-definition effects that you can use together to further enhance your sounds. There's everything from a great mix of standard usable effects like chorus, phaser, delay and compressor to shimmering world-class reverbs that will take your sound to the next level.

Automatable 16-step sequencer

opsix SE features an incredible step sequencer that rivals groove boxes in terms of flexibility and power. Press the PLAY button on any sound and discover the complexity of the sequences! Each programme comes with a unique sequence, or create your own. You can record up to six notes per step and edit each note's velocity, gate time and playback timing. Create long phrases or subtly alter the timing to emulate strums or drum rolls, which is not possible with a conventional 16-step sequencer. The opsix SE's motion sequencer also lets you record changes to up to six parameters, so you can create smooth sound changes within a phrase or build rhythms that change dramatically with each step.

Monstrous modulation matrix

The modulation capabilities of the opsix SE are truly breathtaking. With six operator modes and 40 preset algorithms, as well as the ability to create your own, the opsix SE gives you dynamic sonic options. This synthesis is enhanced by the processors at the end of the signal chain. The MOD section operates separately from the operators, with three EGs and three LFOs, and 12 virtual patches for a wide variety of routing possibilities. Use these functions for a wide range of modulation to create moving soundscapes or add rhythmic displacement to your sounds.

Roll the dice

Use the Randomize function if you're in the mood for unexpected sonic discoveries. Press the button marked with a die to completely scramble the synth's parameters, generating a unique new sound. You can use the Randomize function for all parameters or just for operators, algorithm or sequences. You may find gold with your roll of the dice, but if not, try again or use the result as a starting point for your next new sound.

Free library software

The opsix Sound Librarian allows you to view and organise data from an opsix SE connected to a computer via USB, and to transfer sound data between the opsix SE and the computer.

KORG Shop

KORG Shop offers a wide range of sound packs for the opsix that are ready to use in your music production. Our sound designers, artists and FM synthesizer specialists from around the world have carefully crafted these sounds for you to use in your music production.

Free music software

The opsix SE comes with a wide variety of Izotope music software, including "Ozone Elements" which not only lets you create songs but also master them using AI, "Skoove" which will help you improve your keyboard playing, as well as software synthesizers from KORG and other brands. In other words, once you get your hands on this synthesiser, you'll have a host of tools to help you take your music to the next level.
