Beschrijving

The MK 8 is often used for M/S and dual M/S stereo sound in film and music recording, in combination with Colette or CCM microphones and/or a Canon microphone hyperdirectional CMIT.

This type of capsule is a pure dipole. The MK 8's figure-eight directional pattern remains consistent from low to high frequencies, which is especially important when used in an M/S installation. Its sensitivity decreases more in low frequencies than that of other capsules, but the proximity effect (which can compensate, given the relatively close placement) is also more pronounced.

The production of the MK 8 is a special technical achievement, because in terms of physics, the force available due to the pressure gradient is minimal. Despite this, the MK 8 has excellent frequency and polarity response, near-perfect front/rear symmetry, and low inherent noise. The microphone is relatively sensitive to structure-borne noise as well as wind and breath. Good protection must be considered, for example an anti-wind screen and/or suitable anti-shock/anti-vibration mounting.
