Franz Schubert's Impromptus op. 90 (D 899) are one of the most frequently played works by Franz Schubert, and have their rightful place in course and concert programmes. The Wiener Urtext Edition (original text) now presents a new version, revised in the light of the most up-to-date research and practical interpretation. The edition clarifies the text in numerous details, and basic problems such as the distinction between accents and decrescendo signs, or the question of equating dotted rhythms with triplets, are resolved in a new, non-dogmatic way on the basis of the original Schubertian manuscript.
