Alongside significant chamber music works, such as piano quartets or violin sonatas, Fauré also composed delightful miniatures for violin and piano. In this regard, particular mention should be made of the Berceuse op. 16 in D major, which, from its premiere in 1880, quickly became one of the composer's best-known works and was published in countless arrangements. The melodious theme and the colorful piano part here reveal the work Fauré had just completed on his 1st Violin and Piano Sonata in A major.
