Henle Verlag DEBUSSY C. - SYRINX [LA FLUTE DE PAN] (FOR FLUTE SOLO)

Beschrijving

Syrinx is undoubtedly one of the works immediately associated with Debussy. Originally titled The Pan Flute at the time of its creation, this piece was composed in 1913 as incidental music for a dramatic poem by Gabriel Mourey. In the central scene, Pan plays the reed flute, an instrument into which the nymph Syrinx was transformed. However, he is not visible to the other nymphs or the audience. To best reproduce the scene, the dedicatee, Louis Fleury, customarily performed the piece behind a screen in concerts. The work was published posthumously in 1927 by the publisher Jobert. It now enjoys unprecedented popularity.
