The TG Microphone from Chandler Limited EMI Abbey Road Studios is a large-diaphragm condenser microphone. Continuing the rich tradition of innovation, the TG Microphone is unique in its feature set. The TG Microphone's built-in Tape Equalizer section, combined with its Dual Tone System, dedicated power supply, and other features, creates an extremely flexible microphone capable of competing in scenarios where FET47s, C414s, U87s, and U47s have traditionally found their place.
The Tape Equalizer is adapted from the NAB/IEC tape EQ found on vintage EMI TG mastering consoles and applied to great effect in the TG Microphone. Historically used to compensate for tapes played back on machines with different standards, the Tape Equalizer allows the engineer to shape the sound at the source instead of relying on external processing. The timbre shaping possibilities are further expanded when the band EQ is combined with the selectable 90/50 Hz low-cut filter.
The Dual Tone System modifies the TG microphone's input and expands its flexibility to capture a wide range of sources. System "A" is the TG mid-forward, while the other voicing, "B," handles extreme SPLs and will respond anywhere a FET47 would be the choice. The TG microphone relies on a dedicated power supply (PSU). Using a dedicated power supply, rather than 48V phantom power, results in a wider sound.
