Few musicians know that Beethoven also arranged his violin concerto for piano. Many pianists have only recently discovered this truly rewarding challenge. The London composer and publisher Clementi had heard about the premiere of the violin concerto and, probably sensing a good opportunity, asked Beethoven for a piano transcription, which was indeed published in 1808. The composer accompanies his piano version with some entirely remarkable new cadenzas. The one for the 1st movement? What a unique, original find! ? is accompanied by the timpani.
