CMIT 5 set a new standard for hyperdirectional tube microphones from the start. Its directivity increases particularly regularly with frequency, which gives an exceptionally balanced sound character. In addition, the level decreases particularly regularly and independently of frequency, on the side of the 0° axis. Thus, localized events can be recorded in a sonically neutral manner, reducing the effects of movement during boom shots.
The CMIT 5 has more directivity than one would expect from a microphone of this length. It is also used for musical recordings, for example in opera, where a stronger directional response is required (for example in confined spaces). The sound quality of the CMIT 5 remains unchanged when the microphone is rotated on its longitudinal axis, because its polar pattern is the same in the vertical and horizontal plane (rotational symmetry).
