With the OC16, Austrian Audio presents a completely new microphone from the "Open Condenser" series with large diaphragm, equipped with Open Acoustics technology. The transparent and natural sound of the OC microphones is the result of the combination of the patented CKR capsule and the "Open Acoustics" design approach developed by Austrian Audio.
The OC16 has an extremely robust build quality and is equipped with the CKR6 ceramic capsule, which is handmade in Vienna. Inspired by the sonic qualities of a much-loved legendary microphone, our engineers focused on technological advancement and innovation when developing the CKR capsule. Newly available materials such as industrial ceramics are used. This highly insulating material which has the same mass and acoustic characteristics as the brass originally used, but which, at the same time, is much less prone to production errors and therefore more consistent in workmanship, longevity and product stability. Each of these handcrafted CKR capsules is tested and measured in-house before leaving the factory.
The "Open Acoustics" technology, exclusive to Austrian Audio, eliminates acoustic interference, such as unwanted reflections and standing waves, inside the microphone. The result is Austrian Audio's well-known, open and natural OC sound.
In addition to the CKR capsule and Open Acoustics technology, the OC16 microphone has other aspects and features like its low-cut / high-pass filter at 40Hz to eliminate the lowest interference frequencies or 160Hz to neutralize proximity effect, i.e. the bass boost that occurs when the microphone is placed very close to the sound source.
The microphone's flat design, combined with reduced weight, allows for precise pickups and alignment, even in hard-to-reach places. The CKR capsule is suspended in the microphone at three elastic points. Interference from structure-borne noise is thus reduced to a minimum, allowing the microphone to be used without a suspension stand. Ideal for hanging the OC16 from a cable in front of a guitar amplifier.
The OC16 can tolerate sound pressure up to 148 dB SPL and can therefore be used without risk of distortion even in front of very loud sound sources. Whether it's brass, loud drums or straight through the guitar amplifier, the OC16 will always pick up the signal cleanly.
All these aspects make the OC16 an extremely flexible all-rounder and allow it to be used on a wide variety of instruments: From drums, electric and acoustic guitars, pianos, wind and string instruments and the voices. In addition, the OC16 presents a perfect profile in the office: recording podcasts, live broadcasts, dubbing video content or even online conferences, all now created with the best intelligibility and speech quality. The highly accurate cardioid pick-up pattern effectively suppresses background noise, such as computer fan noise.
The versatile OC16 microphone comes in a handy soft case including a spider-shaped elastic suspension.
