Received in its "Squier" cardboard box, quite well protected inside, then once unpacked, I appreciated having an Indonesian copy of this legendary bass, the "Fender Jazz Bass 70's", weighing about 4.2 kg (it's reassuring, it reinforces the feeling of having a "real" instrument, but personally requires a thick and wide strap), and with a successful aesthetic; the wood and varnish show no major defects, and the photos on the site correspond quite well.
Being a professional musician (but not a bassist), I usually check the tightening of all screws (hardware, fastenings, etc.) when receiving a new instrument, and I found that most were not tight enough on my example (in music, we block, but do not tighten, especially screws that penetrate the wood). I also had 2 small screws fixing the "butterfly" tuning machines on the headstock, which were "stripped"; simply adding a piece of toothpick cut lengthwise (to be as flat and thin as possible, to the length of the thread pitch of the latter), inserted into the hole of these screws' housing (it must not protrude...), allowed a simple, quick, lasting, and invisible repair. So I did not return the bass for this small issue. Also: do not tighten the pickguard plate screws, as they risk cracking it, the screws being placed on the edges...
The received bass was not very well set up: the action was too high (the distance between the strings and the fingerboard), the neck too curved, the installed string set is "cheap", but does the job for starting or "getting the feel". So a visit to the luthier, with string change, recommended. I appreciated the bone nut, usually reserved for higher-end instruments.
The electronics hold up well, the assembly and soldering are clean, the potentiometer sensitivity is correct, but again, I had to re-tighten the knobs, which were poorly tightened (not serious, but still...), and they are less "effective" than on an original Jazz Bass, but this is normal for the price, and nothing bothersome. The "Alnico" single coil pickups do not produce noise, but we do not know if they are "II" or "V" models, or others.
The sound is really good, nice presence, the gain output is correct, really very close to the original in frequency response, the sound palette is quite wide (neck pickup very "fat" and "round", bridge pickup very "funky medium"), the "C" neck is quite close to the original too, not as thin/narrow at the top of the neck, but almost, and very comfortable for my small hands with short fingers; I was less "comfortable" on a "D" neck.
I am really very satisfied with my purchase, despite the small finishing issues at factory assembly/adjustments (the little star less out of 5...), but once properly set up, with a good set of strings, I enjoy it! I recommend it.
