Thunderbird E1

60s Classic Now With Epiphone TB Plus Humbuckers
The Thunderbird E1 honors the original Thunderbird Bass first issued from the legendary Kalamazoo factory in 1963. The Thunderbird’s unique “reversed” zig-zag body design and equally distinct headstock was the brainchild of legendary automotive designer and visionary Ray Dietrich who was enlisted by the Kalamazoo factory to bolster the electric guitar line and help solidify the factory’s eminent rank among solidbody electric guitar manufacturers. Beginner bassist, I was playing on an Action Bass copy that was given to me, but it had seen better days (worn mechanics, faulty pots, a bad contact at the pickup, very noisy, super high action on the neck...) So, the contrast with this monster is astonishing. First contact: perfect, the setup is pretty well done (slight buzz on the 5th fret of the E string, but just a little screwdriver tweak to raise the bridge can fix it) The finish is spectacular, and although it is made in China, it has an impressive quality level. It looks solid, reliable, and durable; and according to various reviews gathered online, it deserves its reputation. It's not yet at the level of the Gibson Firebird, which it copies, but it is far above the price range at which this bass is sold. It is very largely equivalent to instruments sold for more than double the price. The neck is very comfortable, I don't find it wider than others, it is particularly fast, and pleasant to hold. Some also talk about a very heavy head that tends to fall if you let go of the neck. I do not notice such a problem; Another small thing, on mine, the strap button is placed on the body, behind the neck, which ensures, once strapped, a very good balance. I also read that it was difficult to play fingerstyle while sitting, which for me is completely false: it remains very comfortable. Same for the supposedly difficult slapping on this model, I really don't see where this idea comes from. A very good bass to start with, or to record, or even to play in concert. The sound is absolutely monstrous: warm, round, fat, powerful yet precise and clear. The model has two knobs for the volume of each humbucker, and one for tone. A wide range of sounds can thus be achieved by playing with the three knobs. Depending on your means, plan a good amp to fully express this beast, and a quasi-professional sound will come out of the speakers. All in all, and fresh impressions, it's a superb instrument, which almost deserves to be sold for more... If you have exactly this budget, don't hesitate, it's probably the best value for money in this range... (and on top of that, it really looks badass.)... (Show more)

Beautiful instrument, which once plugged in reveals superb potential. The sound is powerful, with ultimately much more sonic possibility than one might think. I play it with and without a pick. It is clearly designed for rock, but at the same time it can venture into almost any terrain. And what a look! It is simply superb. The weight is somewhat noticeable, the balance is found quite easily despite what one might sometimes read. Thanks again Woodbrass, delivery in record time, everything received perfectly.

I wanted a bass a bit more rock. I mostly play with a pick. Quite a heavy bass but a nice thick sound. Change the strings and if you want it punchy, it sounds good. No hesitation for the price. But watch out for your music style. By upgrading it (changing pickups), which I will do when my budget allows, it's possible to get more precision in the harmonics. Satisfied when it needs to be rough, but don't try to play it funky.

a super rock sound, very hard, very punchy, various settings can soften this sound (if you want of course, it all depends on what you are looking for) okay the little flaw it dips at the nose but I changed the attachment point and there you go, standing sitting for now, I am convinced by this bass and the look I won't even talk about it, one could think of a Gibson Thunderbird

A very very good bass... I'm a beginner and I made a lot of progress quickly with this bass. I was really seduced by its look and its price! I had to buy a specific case but that's a detail... It leans forward when standing but when you hold it, it's fine. Very good sound quality, pleasant strings and awesome design. A must-have at home!!! I recommend it! Good music! See you+

A magnificent bass that sounds very good, suitable for all music styles even if more oriented towards rock, a stunning look (even if the photo is not very representative of the true color of the product, it is superb anyway, it really looks like a Gibson)! The quality of the Woodbrass shipment is great... What can I say? I highly recommend it for its price!

Some confirmations: this bass is really nice and very rock strap attachment screws are too short, need to be replaced with longer ones the color on the site is not representative. If you want to see what it looks like, go see the GIBSON thunderbird IV vintage sunburst model, it's exactly that. It is really big, 1.23m, it requires a specific case.

Superb bass, quality finish and very pleasant to play. My first instrument from the Epiphone brand and I am really satisfied with my purchase :-) As read in other comments, the color really resembles the Gibson sunburst (so darker and nuanced than in the photo): SUPERB!!! Thank you WOODBRASS :-)

the look, the sound, everything is good in this T-Bird!!! just need to heat it up and here we go my kiki!! very, very good bass that I recommend for beginners, intermediate and Pro level!!! only downside: it's too big for a normal flycase!! I'll have to find one

Very rock bass, produces a hard and promising sound, then the various possible adjustments can satisfy, I think, everyone. The only small drawback is that it really tilts forward when standing, so you just have to change the strap position and then it's perfect.

So her, even out of tune she sounds! I play her on an old Novanex guitar from the 70s, and she sounds too. Even unamplified, she sounds!

Very beautiful finish. Not as heavy as some say, a nice round and warm sound. Really a beautiful instrument for this price range.
